Hendre Lake this morning Hobby seen to catch a small passerine, probably a Sparrow or Greenfinch. Then carried it off behind some trees. Also Green Sand and a few Swifts and Willow Warblers.

(2), Common Whitethroat (4), Blackcap (2), Tree Pipit (1), Spotted Fly (1), Lesser Whitethroat (9, highest count here since 1999), Swallow (49), Sedge Wbr. (1), Chiffchaff (1) & Bullfinch (2, both juvs). Leps: Clouded Yellow, Painted Lady, Red Ad., Speckled Wood, Gatekeeper, Meadow Brown, Comma, Large & Small White in high numbers & Yellow Shell (moth).
Sluice farm (Gwent) this morning 2 Greenshanks. 2 Green Sands. 3 Lesser Whitethroats & Kingfisher. Lots of Common Blue Butterflies + Gatekeepers, Red Admiral and still a few Painted Ladies.
In trees behind St Mellons Business park this afternoon 1 spotted Flycatcher and 1 Fem/imm Pied flycatcher. ( behind Gyrus rear car park). May try Shag hunting in morning, in a purely ornithological context.
Failed to see the Shag early this morning. Pied Fly still present at 11.30 am in the same place at St Mellons Business Park. 50 metres down metalled track behind gate, immediately before end of speed limit sign on road to Marshfield.
St. Mellons: No sign of PF at site mentioned (3.30-4.30), however a juv cuckoo was seen along with stock dove (3) & also three clouded yellow butterflies.
Cosmeston was all rather quiet on the birding front with just a handfull of chiffys and willow warblers,continuing the cat thread from CBC1 saw numerous pussies out dog walking .
Sluice Farm (Gwent) on high tide this a.m. 1 Wood Sand which flew towards Peterston. 10 Yellow Wagtails, 1 Wheatear and good numbers of Swallows, Goldfinches and Skylarks.
Happened to find a Portuguese Man-o-War yesterday om Nolton Haven beach. Dead of course, a small one at about 4 inch diameter. they say they can still sting when dead,never stung me though. Also were a few weird Goose Barncles.

Cors Crycydd this morning Female Tufted Duck with 4 well grown young. At least 10 Little Grebes including 1 on a nest.

2 Fulmars and a dead Minke at Barry Watchtower bay.
Rhymney estuary this morning 140 Black Tailed Godwits (At least). 65Knot, 2 Yellow Wagtails and 3 Grey Wagtails. No seabirds or unusual gulls.
Glossy Ibis reported at Kidwelly (VC44) this pm.
