Classic Barn owl encounter last night at 11:30pm.As i rose from checking my moth trap,barney must have been homing in to check it out,we nearly clashed heads and his screech put the feckin shits up me.

Ogmore at 1500hrs - 8 Dunlin, 2 Common Sandpiper, juv Ringed Plover, 1 Whimbrel, 1 Curlew, 91 Canada Goose, fem/imm Goosander, fem & juv Wheatear (juv still with some downy feathers - just out of nest, 2nd brood?), Kingfisher, 2 juv House Martin going south.
Seawatch 9.30 to 10.30 this morning off end of cors Crycydd produced 5 Storm Petrels going down channel fairly close in. Wheatear on rocks and a few Dunlin & Knot flying round. Returning rain then forced a retreat. Don't know where you get these photos from ! - Maurice
Very quiet this afternoon but 6 Swift flew W. For those who work the Lavernock area the following shd be noted. A council notice near the pumping station states that from Sep 15th the coast path from Lavernock to Penarth, where it meets Whitecliff Drive, will be closed for UP TO 6 MONTHS!! for maintenance work, although it does state that the work could be finished within 16 weeks. What timing!

Lavernock Point: Common Whitethroat (3), Chiffchaff (18), Stock Dove (2), Willow Warbler (2), Garden Warbler (1), Sedge Warbler (1), Spotted Flycatcher (1), Blackcap (1), Lesser Whitethroat (1), Cuckoo (1), Green Woodpecker (2), Raven (2) & Common Tern (5 all UC).

BH Gull 1500+, Med Gull 1, Little Gull 1, Whimbrel 1, plenty of hirundines and still at least 20 Swifts.
Marsh Harrier reported from Trowbridge area today. Provisional 7th Cardiff record and first in capital since 2004.

10+ swifts over Taffs Well this afternoon.
Hendre Lake this morning 3 Swifts. 2 Sand martins, Sparrowhawk mobbed by Magpie and jay. Also Willow warbler which is a migrant here.

Sluice farm (Gwent ) this morning 25 Black Tailed Godwits and C150 swallows hawking over saltmarsh. Conditions underfoot terrible.

a walk around the heliport produced only 2 willow warblers in with a long tailed tit flock,5 ringed plover,2 whimbrel and around 1500 BH gulls.
There is a Hobby hanging around the Hendre Lake area. I saw it on Saturday and again briefly today.
