Rumney Great Wharf this morning at least 3, probably 4 Short Eared Owls. Mainly in Gwent but sometimes straying over the border into Cardiff. Also a male Merlin. Dunlin flock approx 400. Maurice
Mr Meriwether there is a Green Woodpecker on the Brachdy Lane/New Road playing fields,i've seen it twice on the lake side and it can often be heard near the flyover.The playing fields probably don't get the coverage it should,some good areas of trees there.A good spot for winter thrushes.

On the 18th there was a Snowbunting on track where turbines used to be. Unable to relocate yesterday but im sure i saw a Hawk Owl harassing a Shorlark there.(beat that stringers)
