Cardiff Heliport: Common Whitethroat (4), Chiffchaff (1) & Kestrel (1), also a an acro warbler singing from the hedgerow (halfway down bay path), sounds like a Sedge Warbler, but its late and out of habitat. Spoke to RM, he was down there yesterday and didn't hear any acro warbler. He's going down tomorrow, as am I. I don't think its Marsh W. so don't panic. Leps: Six-spot Burnet (60+), Small Skipper (4) & Grayling (3). DRWG
Lavernock LNR: Lesser Whitethroat (2), Common Whitethroat (2), Chiffchaff (2), Jay (2), Green Woodpecker (2) & Common Buzzard (1). Leps: Ringlet (8), Meadow Brown (1), Speckled Wood (1), Brown Scallop* (1), Yellow Shell (4), Single-dotted Wave (1) & Riband Wave (1). Odonata: Broad-bodied Chaser (1 male). * the Brown Scallop is the 2nd rec. for the site (last 2002 MCP & DRWG) and only the 4th for East Glam.
Common Sand on river by Lamby Lake this morning. (Sunday 6th ). Thanks for IT advice Jake. Maurice. PS Had 27 E Mails from CBC today. Can these be stopped as it takes so long to delete them have'nt got time to do any birding.
Hours seawatch from end of Cors Crycydd reen this morning produced a second year Gannet and an adult Kittawake but no other birds of note. Incidentally for the Odonata fans there are Banded demoiselles by the River Rhymney near the bridge upstream of eastern Avenue in Old st Mellons.
The Barrage - I'm on a roll. Following the Gannet, I located a second Black Swan this evening, making a pair of Black Swans in the Bay. Oh, also Kingfisher, Swift 200+, Sand Martin 20+, and Black-headed Gull numbers are building up nicely. Think I'll ask Sceptic what's next

A surprisingly busy morning of migrants. A very early Whinchat was in the east pool fields and two Common Sandpiper and a Whimbrel were on the east pool shore. A Green Sandpiper was heard calling, but not located. Four Common Crossbills flew over the Prince of Wales track going north east, 45 Swallows went east in small groups and a female Scaup was on the pool. A few warblers were present with 21 Willow Warblers, 11 Whitethroat and a Lesser Whitethroat the most notable - surprisingly I didn't see any acro warblers at all this morning.
Cardiff Bay 29/07: Swift (c100) & Sand Martin (5). News today from CB is that a Common Tern was present and 200+ swifts (news from The Snipe) Peregrine (juv) over house in Roath on 27/07. Local (Roath area) Swift & House Martin breeding numbers were well down on previous years. Meriwether.
